May 2 - Sunset Wildlife & Glass Beach Exploration – Guided Naturalist Evening Hike
Hosts: Christine Wolf (P'28), Lizzy Ackerly (P'26, P'28)
Experience the magic of the Hayward shoreline as day transitions into dusk on a privately guided naturalist-led adventure. This relaxed, approximately 2-mile evening walk offers a perfect blend of nature, history, and discovery. As the sun sets, the shoreline comes alive. Participants will observe local wildlife in their most active hours — birds settling in for the evening, shifting light across the marshes, and the peaceful rhythms of the Bay. Along the way, your guide will share fascinating insights into the ecology, behavior, and hidden stories of this remarkable habitat. The highlight of the excursion is a visit to Hayward’s captivating Glass Beach, a little-known historic treasure. Here, time reveals itself in colorful fragments: smoothed glass and artifacts linked to early San Francisco history, including remnants connected to the aftermath of the 1906 fire. Each piece hints at a story, turning the beach into a living window into the past. Ideal for nature lovers, curious minds, and anyone who enjoys combining light exploration with rich storytelling. Gentle, scenic, and filled with surprises, it’s an evening that invites participants to slow down, observe, and wonder. All ages welcome!
